Threads hold everything together in a quilt. Here on this page, you'll find "threads" of a different sort. The Threads here are links and information about the classes, software and other assorted items that I use on a nearly everyday basis to "hold it all together" on the web. Check back frequently as my list of "must haves" grows. Enjoy!
Classes Freebies Software
LVS stands for Leader in Virtual Studies. I love this place. I've taken a few classes there, and they've been great. Online learning really works for me, since I can do my homework pretty much when I'm ready to do it. Classes are six weeks long, with new lessons posted each week, and instructor support and feedback on the class bulletin board. I've taken classes in Cascading Style Sheets and Designing Digital Scrapbooking Components, and my mom took a PHP class with LVS Online Classes and they've all been wonderful, and really inexpensive! If you do decide to take a class, tell them I sent you (give them my name, Nadine Ruggles, and e-mail, weavers@dreamweavers-quilts.com), and help me get a free class. Then pass it on to your friends to get your free class!
For a better internet browsing experience, try the Firefox browser. My mom finally converted me, after talking about it for a couple of years. Frankly, it has nothing to do with how secure or insecure Internet Explorer is, I just like Firefox better!! Two words: tabbed browsing! Try it, it's free to download and is fully customizable with extensions to fit every need. Follow the link above and take the Firefox Five Minute Challenge to see in 5 quick and easy steps the features and benefits of using Firefox.
I use MS Outlook as my email client, since it does what I need without fuss (mostly). It does nothing for spam mail though, and I get an absolute ton!! Not to mention emails with possible viruses and worms and other less than desirable things either in or attached. Enter MailWasher Pro. With MailWasher Pro, I can look at all of my emails on all my different accounts with one click of the mouse, while the email is still on the server. In other words, email that I don't want, or is already marked as spam (since MWP checks all mail in real-time against the FirstAlert! spam database) is deleted at the server, and never makes it into my inbox. MWP also blocks potential viruses by examining each email for suspicious code. I can't say enough about the program! Check it out for yourself. Your inbox (and computer) will thank you!
TopStyle Pro is an HTML and CSS editor for building webpages. I don't use programs like FrontPage to create my webpages; I learned with TopStyle, and have yet to be faced with a reason to change gears. If you're going to build webpages, do yourself a favor and learn to do it the right way, with a true HTML editor. TopStyle isn't the only one out there, and maybe not the best, it's just the one I use. Pick one of the many, you'll be better off in the long run!
All of the graphics on my sites are made or edited with Photoshop® Elements. It's a great user-friendly photo editor and graphics tool to help you store, organize, edit and share your photos and graphics. You can even download a free try-it version!
