Work out the Tension

Having tension trouble during free motion quilting? Go back to square one. Test the tension during basic sewing (feed dogs up!) with just two pieces of quilting weight cotton fabric without batting between. Use a dark colored thread in the top and a light colored thread in the bobbin so that you can easily see whether the tension is distributed evenly between the top and bottom threads. Make adjustments to the top tension as necessary to achieve even tension, and then make adjustments from there for correct free motion quilting tension. If you’re unable to correct the tension by adjusting the top thread, your dealer can make further adjustments to the bobbin tension.
