Aspens on my Mind
40" x 34"
100% cotton fabrics, machine pieced, machine quilted with variegated cotton threads.
I started this project as a quick break from more complicated and lengthy ones, and it took longer to pick out the four fabrics for the main part of the quilt than it did to piece it! The pattern is from Convergence Quilts, by Ricky Timms.
When it was time to quilt the piece, it reminded me of the aspen trees in Pine Valley, Utah, where my parents and I used to camp and hike when I was a kid. I could hear the breeze in the aspen trees when I looked at this piece, so I quilted tree trunks in the left border area, waving lines in the middle for wind, and aspen leaves in the right border. I will add a few Swarovski crystals to it before it becomes part of Mom and Dad's collection.
